Karna Gupta In January 2008, Karna Gupta was named CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Certicom. Mr. Gupta brings with him 27 years of high-tech experience both in public and private companies. Prior to his appointment at Certicom, Mr. Gupta held the role of President for the Real-Time Billing Division of Comverse Technologies in New Jersey. In this role, he had the responsibility for the setting the strategic direction of the Billing Division and managing a globally-distributed workforce and serving a global customer base. His previous role in Comverse was Chief Marketing Officer for Comverse Americas. Mr. Gupta also held several executive leadership positions with Bell Canada, including Vice President, Product Development and Management.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. He has also attended executive development programs at Duke University, Harvard/MIT and the University of Western Ontario.
Jeffrey Chisholm
Jeffrey Chisholm has been a member of Board of Directors since February 2003. Mr. Chisholm established a consulting firm in 2001 following a 30-year career with the Bank of Montreal Jeffrey Chisholm has been a member of Board of Directors since February 2003 and was appointed Chairman of the Board in January 2008.
Mr. Chisholm established a consulting firm in 2001 following a 30-year career with the Bank of Montreal where he held a variety of senior management positions between 1990 and 2001, including Vice Chair Personal Commercial Client Group, Vice Chair Electronic Financial Services, and Vice Chair Corporate and Institutional Financial Services. Prior to 1990, he held progressively senior management positions in finance and treasury.
Walter Davis
Walter Davis was appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors in April 2005. Mr. Davis recently retired as Senior Vice President of Motorola, Inc. During his 39 years with Motorola, Mr. Davis held progressively senior positions involved with the development of portable radio communications equipment, computer and security architectures, and circuit applications. His most recent position was Director of the Advanced Consumer Systems Research Laboratories at Motorola Labs. He holds 77 issued U.S. patents in the fields of semiconductor and communications technology, and has served on two National Academy of Science Advisory Committees, advising the U.S. Army on techniques for reducing the power drain of portable electronic equipment. Mr. Davis was presented with the ECC Visionary Award at the first annual Certicom ECC Conference in November 2004, in recognition of his pioneering work in ECC. James D. Fleck
James D. Fleck was appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors in September 2002. Since 1995, Mr. Fleck is Chairman of Fleck Management Services Ltd., an investment advisory company and currently serves as a director on the boards of several public companies. He is also the emeritus M. Wallace McCutcheon Professor of Business Government Relations at the Faculty of Management, University of Toronto. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1997. Scott A. Vanstone
Scott A. Vanstone, Ph.D., co-founder of the Company in March 1985, holds the position of Executive Vice President, Strategic Technology. Dr. Vanstone is also a professor of Mathematics at St. Jerome’s University and the University of Waterloo, an Executive Director of the Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research, the holder of the NSERC/Pitney Bowes Industrial Research Chair in Cryptography at the University of Waterloo, and a Fellow, Royal Society of Canada, Academy of Sciences. Robert P. Wiederhold
Robert P. Wiederhold has been a member of our Board of Directors since February 2001. Since December 2002, Mr. Wiederhold has held the position of President & Chief Executive Officer of Transitive Corporation, a company engaged in the development of software based solutions to allow transportability of applications between various incompatible processor based hardware platforms. Mr. Wiederhold was an Executive in Residence, with Benckmark Capital, a venture capital company from April 2002 to December 2002. From 1998 to 2001 Mr. Wiederhold was President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of Tality Corporation, a provider of product development outsourcing. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Wiederhold was Senior Vice President of Cadence Design Systems Inc. Previously, Mr. Wiederhold was Chief Operating Officer and a director of HLD Systems. J. Ian Giffen
J. Ian Giffen was elected at the Corporation’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders held on September 24, 2008. Mr. Giffen is a chartered accountant with an extensive technology background. Since 1996 he has acted as a senior advisor and Board member to software companies and technology investment funds. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Giffen was Chief Financial Officer at Alias Research Inc., until it was sold for approximately $500 million. Mr. Giffen is currently Chairman of the Board of Descartes Systems Inc. and a director of MKS Inc., Corel Corporation Inc. and Ruggedcom Inc.
