As efforts to achieve crypto-modernization and adopt National Security Agency (NSA) Suite B recommendations move forward, security protocols and performance requirements increasingly include ECC-based digital signatures.

Government agencies and their commercial partners want to use sophisticated ECC encryption technology, but today’s infrastructure – especially Certificate Authorities (CA) that mainly support aging algorithms like RSA and DSA – hasn’t advanced far enough to accommodate evolving standards. To create an ECC root or upgrade to an ECC-centric infrastructure takes time.
