From Suite B to ECC and FIPS 140-2, technology developers must comply with increasingly stringent standards when it comes to government security. At Certicom, it’s our business to know these standards inside out—and to make sure that our offerings consistently exceed their requirements. The following standards are of particular interest to government-sector customers today. Click on the links to find out more: Suite B: What is it? The Suite B cryptographic specification for sensitive but unclassified communications was recently announced by the US Government National Security Agency (NSA). The intent of Suite B is to standardize a single set of cryptographic algorithms to secure all government communications for the sake of interoperability and information sharing. In Suite B, the NSA chose the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for encryption with Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) required for key agreement and digital signatures. The NSA selected ECC because it offers the most strength per bit and scales linearly with the AES - the required symmetric algorithm in Suite B. Suite B: What does the NSA say?
