Certicom's new Device Authentication Service for ZigBee Smart Energy enables secure, low cost, low bandwidth networking. The service uses Certicom’s Device Certificate Authority to issue Elliptic Curve Qu Vanstone (ECQV) implicit certificates to ZigBee devices. Implicit certificates serve as identity certificates which uniquely authenticate a ZigBee Smart Energy device as it gets enrolled on the network. Further, each device certificate contains keying material which allows the device to perform authenticated key agreement to establish secure network connectivity.

Certicom Device Authentication Service for ZigBee Smart Energy provides a root of trust for all ZigBee Smart Energy devices. The service also delivers out of the box interoperability and security, lowering the total cost of ownership for utilities and metering companies while ensuring the integrity of the utility network.
