CERTICOM AND STERLING COMMERCE EXPAND AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE EXTENSIVE SECURITY FOR STERLING E-BUSINESS CUSTOMERS

Sterling Commerce to Incorporate Certicom Trustpoint PKI Software to Enhance Security of Java-Based E-Business Applications 

DUBLIN, OH and HAYWARD, Calif., July 16, 2001 - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, and Sterling Commerce, a wholly owned subsidiary of SBC Communications (NYSE: SBC) and worldwide leading provider of e-business software and services, today announced an expanded agreement that will provide Sterling customers with extensive security options for Java-based e-business applications. 

The agreement calls for Sterling Commerce to incorporate Certicom's Trustpoint™ public-key infrastructure (PKI) product into its portfolio of e-business software and services. Trustpoint is a full-featured PKI toolkit that adds the most advanced public-key and symmetric-key security to applications written in Java. 

Today's announced agreement expands the list of Certicom solutions Sterling Commerce has integrated into their line of e-business applications. Sterling Commerce has been using Certicom's leading ECC and SSL security technologies in its CONNECT: DirectÒ products since January of 1999, providing its customers with advanced security for conducting safe and reliable e-commerce transactions across the Internet and other global networks.
