CERTICOM EXPANDS RELATIONSHIP WITH BEA TO PROVIDE ADVANCED SECURITY FOR THE BEA WEBLOGIC E-BUSINESS PLATFORM

BEA to Use Certicom SSL Technology In its Market-Leading Application Server Product Line

Hayward, Calif., February 6, 2001 - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, today announced that it has expanded its relationship with BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), one of the world's leading e-business infrastructure software companies, to extend Certicom security across the award-winning BEA WebLogic(r) E-Business Platform. In addition to existing Certicom SSL in BEA WebLogic EnterpriseTM, BEA has now licensed Certicom's SSL PlusTM as a standard secure socket layer (SSL) implementation for BEA WebLogic Server(tm), the industry's leading J2EE application server. In addition, BEA has licensed WTLS Plus(tm) from Certicom for future use in mobile commerce (m-commerce) solutions. The integration of Certicom's trusted encryption in the BEA WebLogic family of application servers is intended to provide BEA customers with an enhanced secure software infrastructure for conducting safe and reliable e-commerce transactions across the Internet and other global networks.

"As the leading provider of Web application servers, BEA has a reputation for providing infrastructure that enables reliable, scalable and secure access to business-critical applications," said John Kiger, director of marketing for the BEA E-Commerce Server Division. "We chose to use Certicom's technology for its superior authentication and encryption facilities that provide state-of-the-art security capabilities to BEA WebLogic customers."

"BEA is one of the most influential forces shaping today's Internet economy, as many of the world's most successful companies rely on BEA e-business infrastructure software to take their businesses to the Web," said Richard Depew, executive vice president, Certicom. "The addition of Certicom's trusted security in leading e-commerce solutions provides the means for companies like BEA to protect the integrity of communications across networks so that traditional brick-and-mortar transactions can safely be performed in today's 'click-and-mortar' economy."

Certicom's SSL Plus toolkit is the industry's most widely deployed commercial SSL product, due largely to its ease of use, rapid development time, and support for standard security protocols, including RSA, DSA/Diffie-Hellman, and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) - the only SSL product with that capability. Certicom's SSL Plus toolkit is used by leading companies such as Agilent, BEA, Citrix, Juno, Nortel, Oracle and Sybase to build security into a wide range of applications and products for the Internet, intranets, and corporate networks - from traditional Web browsers and servers to home banking products, handheld devices and legacy mainframes. Certicom's industry-leading Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) toolkit provides full strength, high-performance WTLS security, ideally suited for WAP implementations in wireless environments.
