Annual conference provides forum to discuss leading-edge cryptography and latest applications
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – (October 17, 2006) – Certicom Corp. (TSX: CIC) today announced that Frank Quick, senior vice president of engineering at QUALCOMM, will speak at the Certicom ECC Conference on November 14-16 in Toronto, Canada.
The Conference offers a forum to discuss pure mathematics and real-world applications of cryptography, as well as evolving security standards. The three-day conference is the only one of its kind and attracts cryptography leaders in academia and the security industry from around the world.
During his session, Dr. Quick will describe the approach being considered by QUALCOMM’s Government Technologies Division to integrate elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) into the mobile handset platform, discussing the architecture, application interfaces and potential applications of ECC in this environment.
“The team at QUALCOMM is using the most advanced cryptographic algorithms to ensure its customers’ information is secure, reinforcing its position as a leading developer of digital wireless communications products,” said Dr. Scott Vanstone, Certicom founder and EVP, strategic technology. “Throughout the conference, we’ll be discussing how companies, such as QUALCOMM, are using ECC to protect valuable information.”
ECC is used in a growing number of product categories, including consumer electronics, wireless devices and semiconductors, which serve everything from government and financial services sectors to protecting the information of everyday consumers. Its implementations protect content, securely transmit data and enable digital signatures on documents and transactions. The small size of ECC is a main driver behind its popularity. Backed by 20 years of experience, Certicom is considered a pioneer in ECC research and implementations. The company developed the industry’s first toolkit to include ECC, which has since been adopted by more than 300 organizations.
