MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – (May 25, 2006)–Certicom Corp. (TSX: CIC) today announced that GE's security business has licensed Certicom's elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) technology.
ECC is a computationally efficient form of public-key cryptography that offers equivalent security to other competing technologies but with much smaller key sizes. ECC-based technology can deliver faster computations, lower power consumption, as well as memory and bandwidth savings, thereby making it a leading technology choice for constrained devices. In its recently published cryptographic specifications (known as Suite B) the National Security Agency named ECC as the public-key cryptography to use for securing classified and unclassified information.
