CERTICOM ANNOUNCES MOVIANVPN FOR POCKET PC 2003

Certicom adds Windows Mobile 2003 software to its growing list of supported platforms; IT administrators need only use one VPN client for wireless handhelds

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario –(December 10, 2003)– Certicom Corp. (TSX: CIC), a leading provider of wireless security solutions, today announced the availability of movianVPN™ for Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. With support for multiple operating systems and interoperability with popular enterprise VPN gateways, movianVPN fits with existing infrastructure and simplifies IT administration.

Developed to meet the IPSec standard, movianVPN is an award-winning VPN client that provides strong security, including confidentiality, integrity and authentication from handheld devices to the corporate network. New to movianVPN is its interoperability with the Cosine IPSX VPN gateway and its support for the new Windows Mobile connection manager. This feature enables easy connection to a variety of networks. In addition, movianVPN for Pocket PC 2003 uses a new IPSec driver design that improves speed and enhances user experience.

movianVPN for Pocket PC 2003 extends support to the HP iPAQ 5400 series and 5500 series, and Dell Axim X5 and Toshiba E750 handhelds. With its support for the three leading operating systems -- Microsoft Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian OS -- and the various versions of the platforms, movianVPN can be used with more than 50 handheld devices. It interoperates with more than 13 leading VPN gateways, including those from Cisco, Netscreen and Nortel. This interoperability enables enterprises to leverage existing VPN infrastructure and functionality, such as policy mechanisms, and thereby realize a better return on their existing security infrastructure investment.

“movianVPN offers us secure standard IPSec encryption and compatibility with our preferred VPN platform, Contivity. These were key considerations for us when choosing a wireless VPN client,” said Bjarne Hermansen, senior systems engineer at Nortel Networks and a Certicom beta customer. “We’ll be rolling movianVPN out to our sales team who want secure mail and IP telephone connectivity via their PDAs.”

“In designing Windows Mobile 2003 software, we sought to create a mobile operating system that encouraged platform innovation,” said Julie Wymetalek, partner manager for the Mobility Partner Advisory Council at Microsoft Corp. “Certicom’s movianVPN is a great example of such platform innovation, enabling IT managers to more easily manage their environments to ensure their wireless networks are as secure as they can be.”

movianVPN is part of a complete Certicom solution for wireless handheld security: movianCrypt™ secures the date on the device, while movianMail™ secures e-mail and attachments from sender to recipient—even on a server. To make the creation and enforcement of handheld security policies easier with large deployments, Certicom offers movianDM™, a deployment manager.

“By providing support for Windows Mobile, as well as other operating systems, Certicom is responding to the desire of IT managers to use just one wireless VPN application for multiple devices and gateways,” said Tony Rosati, vice-president, marketing and product management at Certicom. “We are pleased to build on our relationship with Microsoft and to continue to provide strong security without compromising performance or usability of constrained devices.”

Certicom is a member of the Microsoft Mobility Partner Advisory Council (MPAC), an invitation-only program developed by Microsoft to empower partners to create software solutions for Windows Mobile-based devices by providing them with the tools and programs they need to be innovative and successful.
