CERTICOM JOINS FORCES WITH CISCO AND DELOITTE & TOUCHE TO LEAD FIRST BAY AREA SUMMIT ON WIRELESS COMPUTING

HAYWARD, Calif., July 31, 2001 - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, today announced the first Bay Area Summit on Wireless Security to be held Wednesday, August 8 at the W Hotel in San Francisco, California.

According to International Data Corp., in the United States alone, the number of wireless devices with two-way access to the Internet is expected to increase to 61.5 million by 2003. Securing the exchange among wireless devices and corporate networks is fundamental to long-term business success, but there is still much debate about best practices in the development and deployment of wireless security. At the Bay Area Summit on Wireless Computing, technology experts from Certicom, Cisco and Deloitte & Touche will discuss the market trends for wireless, including perspectives on the current and future state of wireless security; issues involving security management; an overview of a wireless enterprise deployment; and some industry specific implementation methods for transforming and deploying wireless initiatives throughout an enterprise.

Experts will also discuss their unique visions for transforming wired environments into wireless by leveraging existing enterprise assets. Presentations will cover real-world solutions and case studies that are extensible to the delivery of wireless applications. An exploration of applied methods that have been used by early adopters of wireless security technologies will also be included.

Registration for The Bay Area Summit on Wireless Computing will begin at noon and the first session will begin at 1:00pm. Technology forums and interactive discussions will continue until 5:00pm and will be followed by a hosted cocktail reception. The cost to attend is $195 per person. Special arrangements have been made for media and analyst participation. Please contact Carol Paterson at Lois Paul & Partners at 415.262.1908 orcarol_paterson@lpp.com for more information.
